David Kennedy David Kennedy is one of Australia’s leading Clinical Hypnotists. Widely recognised for his lectures and courses in Clinical Hypnosis, Psychotherapy and Neurolinguistics, he is principal of the David Kennedy School.
His work as a hypnotherapist was featured on Channel Nine Australia's "What's Good For You" program in June 2006, for which he received an overwhelming number of calls for his services. In August 2007, he was awarded Life Membership of the Australian Hypnotherapists' Association in recognition of his contribution to the hypnotherapy profession. David says: "Hypnotherapy in the clinical setting is a method of therapy which facilitates transformation, inner search, learning and therapeutic change. It has been my pleasure for many years to teach people the liberating power of self-hypnosis, and to train health professionals, corporate trainers and individuals the use and practice of Clinical Hypnosis". David has been a counsellor for over fifty years, and began his working life as a church minister. He first came in contact with hypnosis when given a tape during an illness, and he found that profound control over our bodies and mind was available to all of us. After undergoing training in "traditional" hypnosis, David became aware that he had been using hypnotic techniques with the people who had been coming to him for help in his role as community counsellor. His original training was revolutionised when he came in contact with the teaching of the American Psychiatrist, Dr Milton Erickson. Erickson’s teaching brings together the best of Rogerian psychotherapy with a unique understanding of the subconcious mind. David estimates that he has seen over 20,000 individuals in his clinics and seminars, helping them to overcome a wide range of physical, emotional and behavioural problems. The School is a stake holder and member of the Peak Body representing the hypnosis associations of Queensland to the Queensland Government. David was a delegate of the inaugural meeting of this group in 1994 and originally held the position of secretary. This group has been involved in sending submissions to the Legislative Review Committee, and has resulted in legislative change which allows individuals other than psychiatrists and psychologists to practice hypnosis. More recently, we have been involved with the development of a National Peak Body, which will represent the hypnotherapy profession in Australia. David is a gifted and dynamic teacher, and encourages his students to take the best aspects from a range of different sources, enabling individuals to establish their own unique and effective method of practice. He brings a wealth of background and experience in the field, and uses case studies and detailed examples in order to facilitate an experiential and practical studying experience. David's other interests include watching cricket, collecting model cars, and reading novels. He invests many hours in perfecting the preparation of the perfect flat white coffee. |
